這個電影講述了一個真實的故事，博茲瓦納獨立的故事。如果不是因為伯茲瓦納2016年被評為世界最佳旅游地，我都不知道南非還有這么一個小國，但是這個小國出產鉆石。為了自己國家的獨立，為了種族平等的事業，也為了自己的愛情，年輕的國王放棄了自己世襲罔替的王位，把博茲瓦納變成了一個民選總統的共和國。這個電影并不感人，部分情節還有點混亂，男女主人公的演技也不是很精湛，但是這個故事特別好，絲絲入扣，又不拖沓。
Ruth and Seretse do not give up on their love even though their marriage is inconvenient to both Britain and Botswana. Seretse is Botswana's future king, who believes in democracy, equality and an end to racism and apartheid. A battle for love gradually becomes a battle for the future of Botswana, for the victory of right over wrong and for freedom in Africa. I especially enjoyed Ruth's story - she had no super powers except a loving heart and this was more than enough to secure her a life-long relationship with Seretse. As for him, Seretse's story shows that when we have the courage to fight for one thing that is important to us we will keep fighting for other important things as well.
