The most clever filmmakers to release their first work in the early 1970s were Dan Pita (born 1938) and Mircea Veroiu (born 1941), both of whom were around 30 years old at the time. They jointly produced two outstanding films, "The Stone Wedding" (Nunta de piatra, 1972) and "The Golden Desire" (Duhul aurului, 1974), both of which were inspired by the Romanian literary classic "Ion Agarbiceanu". These two films emphasize the author's unique narrative and style preferences, balanced by a sense of tragedy, a folk like tone, and modernist expressionist imagery (with the iconic signature of their photographer Iosif Demian).
